The Arnprior & McNab/Braeside Archives is a multi-municipal institution established by local volunteers as a non-profit, charitable organization, serving the citizens of the Town of Arnprior and MacNab-Braeside Township.  The Archives was established to acquire, preserve and make accessible important historical documents pertaining to the history of the area. 
Our holdings include:
  • Business records and family documents of the Gillies and Stewart Families, two of the earliest mill owners in the area, and other collections pertaining to the lumbering industry
  • Women's Institutes have chronicled community life in the Tweedsmuir Histories of Braeside, Arnprior, Pine Grove and White Lake.
  • Renfrew County Land Registry Records (1858 - 1958)
  • Newspapers of the district dating back to 1888 are available on microfilm at the Archives along with several family collections which document the life and times of area residents (not described on the web site).
  • Cemetery records, assessment rolls and census records for the area will be of interest to genealogists and family history researchers.

Volunteer Support

In 2007, volunteers contributed 2395 hours.  Of that total 1046 hours were contributed by service volunteers who help researchers better access the archival material.  Other volunteer work included service on the management board, standing and ad hoc committees, web site development, research, archival projects, publicity and fund raising.
2007 Statistics
First time visitors/researchers register with the Archives.  In 2007, there were 131 new walk-in registrations    In 2007 there were 173 repeat walk-in visits. As well, 54 people arrived in groups to do research.
