Mr. Melvin Boese was born in Fitzroy Harbour in 1918. He worked for
Gillies Brothers and AF Campbell and Sons of Arnprior after serving in the Canadian Army.
When he returned from living in Waterloo in 1966, he and his wife Estella Steinke
bought land on the 11th concession of McNab ( formerly Sam McComb farm ). He took
photographs of the Madawaska River and the Arnprior Grist Mill with his Brownie camera
which was free from Kodak to all eleven year olds with birthdays in July 1929. The
collection also consists of three Arnprior Chronicle newspapers: July 29, 1919; January16,
1925; July 8 - 14, 1962.
