Genealogical Abstracts from
the Arnprior Chronicle 1917 - 1930 |
These genealogical abstracts were compiled from
microfilm copies of The Arnprior Chronicle held by the Arnprior
& District Archives. Over 5,000 birth, marriage and death
notices are to be found in the index. The Arnprior Chronicle
began circulation in 1879 as a weekly, usually eight pages in
length, under the proprietorship of Munn and MacDonald.
As with the previous volume in this series, which covered the
years 188 - 1916, the Archives collection of the Chronicle for 1918
- 1930 is far from complete. It consists of only two issues
for 1917, six for 1924, one for 1925, three for 1926, 15 for 1927
and 15 for 1928. The years 1929 and 1930 are complete.
These issues of the newspaper cannot be found in any other known
public repository.
The geographical area covered by these abstracts goes far beyond
the town of Arnprior. The items come from all parts of Renfrew
County, the counties of Lanark and Carleton to he south and east,
across the Ottawa River in Pontiac County, Quebec, and from many
parts of the U.S.A. and Canada, especially the prairie provinces to
which many former residents of the region had emigrated.

Arnprior Village 1891 Census |
The federal census of
1891 was conducted between April 6th and May 22nd, 1891. The
assessor recorded a population of 3341 for the Village of Arnprior that
consisted of 635 families. Surnames are listed as they appear on the
copies of the census held at the Arnprior & District Archives.
In addition to census
information, this publication provides cross references to other primary
sources in the Arnprior
& District Archives. The Remarks column directs the researcher to
members of the same family within the same publication. It also
contains a summary of the various occupations listed in column 16 (
Profession, Occupation or Trade ) which reveals much about the character
of the village at the end of the 19th century. |
