1. The Peter Hessel Collection is arranged into two series:
Item-by-item descriptions
arranged according to the author's own alphabetical filing system. Only the file
titles are shown on
the web site. For an item-by-item description of contents, researchers may contact
the Arnprior & McNab/Braeside Archives.
2. Collected Maps (over 30
maps) This series contains original maps and some photocopies of maps which Peter
Hessel collected while conducting research for his book about McNab Township and other
historical subjects of local interest. Several maps illustrate historical
changes in boundaries and jurisdiction for the County of Renfrew and the Township of McNab
between the 1700s and 1900, as well as topographical features, place names and land
ownership.
For example, the series includes an original 1902 map of the Province of Ontario by the
Department of Lands and Forests and a 1928 "Road Map of Ontario and Adjacent
Territory" published by Canadian Tire Corporation.
For each map, Peter has prepared a brief description. These descriptions are in
the computer file "Peter Hessel's Map Collection". A print out is attached to
each map.
