Welcome Our Archivist

 Janis Hernandez joined the Arnprior & McNab/Braeside Archives as its Consulting Archivist in April 2024. With over a decade of experience in archives, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our community. Her specializations include data, information, preservation and documentation management, and she has worked in various sectors, designing, developing, evaluating, and preserving data and information to meet our organizational needs. Janis is deeply committed to upholding ethical standards and ensuring responsible data and information management, with a keen focus on privacy, accuracy, security, and individual rights.
Janis's solid educational background includes a Master of Information from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Documentation from the University of La Salle in Bogota, Colombia. Her diverse technical skills include archives, preservation, document management systems, metadata schemes, and archives security. Her adherence to ISO standards showcases her comprehensive capabilities in information systems management and preserving our heritage.

Janis has held various roles, from a SharePoint Information Specialist at Sherrit International Corporation to an Information Consultant at Public Safety Canada. Her experience includes assisting in creating data governance strategies, providing data migration support, and implementing digital archives policies.

Working with the Government of Colombia, She has successfully led document management projects and implemented innovative information and documentation standards. Janis's goal was to create an inclusive workplace for deaf individuals, and she has been successful in this endeavour. Her dedication to diversity and accessibility has been evident in her leadership and expertise, making her a valuable asset in every position she has held and significantly contributing to the Archives Community.
